Export – import situation in recent periods:
In 2007 Total export – import turnover has reached 48.56 billion US dollars, increase of over 21.9 percent compare to 2006, excess 1.4 percent compare to the norms reported to National Assembly in October, 2007. The year 2007 was fifth consecutive one, it showed over 20 percent growth in export, average of over 4 billion US dollars per month, of which, ten commodities with their export turnover of over 1 billion US dollars, such as: Raw petroluem, textile-garment, leather-shoes, aquatic products, electronic, timber, computer, coffee, rice, rupper, coal. In 2007, it reached 62.68 billion US dollars in import, increase of 39.6 percent compare to 2006, of which, sixteen commodities with their import turnover of over 1 billion US dollars, such as: Machineries and equipments: 11.1 billion US dollars; Petroleum: 7.7 billion US dollars; Steel: 5.1 billion US dollars; electronic accessories: 3 billion US dollars; Plastic: 2.5 billion US dollars;

From 1990 to now, excess of imports over exports always occured in Vietnam (except 1992, excess of exports over imports was 36 million US dollars. In recent years, excess of imports over exports has showed an increase. Mainly in 2007, the rate of excess of imports over exports has reached 29 percent.

Up to 2007, there were over 320 thousands of small and medium enterprises, almost of all privated owned enterprises, of which, the enterprises operating in industry and trade field occupied 31 percent. In the period of 2001 – 2006, a number of enterprises increased 22 percent per year and their capitals increased over 49 percent per year. Only in 2007, there were 51 thousands of new registered enterprises with their capitals of over 180 thousands billion dongs. Privated owned enterprises have provided jobs for approx. 3 thousands of labourers, contributing for over 40 percent of GDP, occupying for density of 29 percent of total export turnover of the whole country, approx. 15 percent of State budget revenue.

One of France’s famous beer, Kronenbourg 1664 was officially present on Vietnam market. Kronenbourg Vietnam Ltd Co. (KVL) is a Join-venture with foreign invested capitals, established by Scottish & Newcastle plc (S & N Group) and Viet Nam National Tobacco Corporation (VINATABA) with its capitals of 75 millions US dollars, of which, they have entered into a 50/50 joint venture. On December 2007, KVL has made a ground breaking ceremony for building a new brewery for producing Kronenbourg 1664 beer in Duc Hoa district, Long An province, Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, Kronenbourg 1664 beer has imported from France in to Vietnam market in order to advertize its trade-mark.

Only the first twenty days of 2008, there were thirty five FDI projects with its total capitals of over 1.6 billion US dollars, have been granted by invested registrated application, at the same time, ten on-going projects with supplement of capitals for expansion of operation scale, which brought total new registered FDI capitals to over 1.72 billion US dollars in January 2008, increase of five folds compare to the same period of 2007. As a result, only past thirteen months, Vietnam has attracted additive twenty two billion US dollars of registered FDI capitals, equivalent to 20 percent of total capitals attracted in past twenty years, an excess result than optimistic forecast formerly.
